Edgar Degas was a French painter and sculpture and one of the founders of Impressionism. The Star (Dancer on a Stage) was created in 1878 by the famous French artist Edgar Degas (1834-1917). Degas had a life-long fascination with dance, and he produced many paintings depicting ballerinas. This painting features a lone ballerina bowing to the audience whilst more dancers wait behind the scenes. It is currently housed at Musée d’Orsay station, Paris.
